While our favorite time of the year (wedding season) is still going strong for us, I can’t help but admit to looking forward to the Fourth of July holiday. Not because I’m doing anything super grand. But, it’s one of those holidays that everyone can simply relax and enjoy everything that is good about the summer. Friends, family, food, time on the water (if you are so lucky). It’s a definite jump away from Invision’s normal days of formalities (which I adore as well).
I started to put together a blog post all about entertaining ideas for the Fourth of July. And while there are loads of seriously cute ways to design the look of the party, I began to realize that I was drawn more to the food aspect of the holiday than the decor aspect. Maybe I really am just a food junkie hiding behind an event planner’s facade. Honestly, some of my best memories growing up were of spending the day with my friends and family, either around a pool or at the beach (since I was lucky enough to grow up on the Gulf Coast) and eating the best food of the year (I swear, it rivals Thanksgiving for me). This mental image includes us kids dressed in our swim suits the entire day, eating this amazing food on a paper plate, probably sitting at a picnic table and paper towels for napkins. It’s not glamorous in any way. But, it was perfect.
So, today, I’m going to share my favorite Fourth of July menu. It actually is the bigger part of the holiday for me and the one I most enjoy. I wish you all a wonderful and safe holiday! I hope you make some perfect memories!
Until next time… XOXO, Julie
Starting from the top, left to right: 1. Hot dogs. I really do love them. I’m a purist and prefer a good beef dog, grilled, with only ketchup and mustard. But, clearly a slew of toppings can be added. 2. Lemonade. We have the world’s best here in Auburn at Toomer’s. I’m pretty sure that I couldn’t be without it on a holiday such as this. 3. Strawberry Shortcake. For as many ways as you can do fourth-inspired desserts, nothing says summer more than Strawberry Shortcake. 4. Grilled corn on the cob. Again, keep it simple. Just butter and salt and pepper for me please. 5. Ribs. This calls for a pretty good grill master. When you find the right person, go for the ribs. Delish. 6. Beans. Just plain yummy. A little brown sugar in mine please. 7. Burgers. To go along with the hot dogs. I will probably have to take a bite out of each selection if they are both offered. 8. Potato salad. It just screams southern summers to me. 9. Blueberries and strawberries. I remember picking blueberries one summer. I think my mouth and fingers were blue for a solid week. No need to dress these beauties up. They are perfect as is.
