Pantone’s Color of the Year 2015: Marsala Inspiration

For this industry, there’s nothing better to start conversations amongst ourselves like when Pantone releases their choice for Color of the Year. It doesn’t really have any bearing on what my brides actually choose for their wedding, but it does give a perfect chance for us vendors to design something that would never even be a part of the conversation otherwise. In other words, this is nothing but a little fun and I love it!

This year’s choice, Marsala, which was announced just a few short weeks ago, really has made me happy. It is rich, deep and earthy. As Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone says, “Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to it’s embracing warmth.”

And when it comes to imagining how to use this in a wedding, that’s where I get even more excited. Because it seems to have several lives about it, it works so well with others. When I started to make an inspiration board for this color, I kept finding examples of where it was either an accent or a grounding color, but not an overwhelming piece. I particularly love seeing it work with copper – a overlooked metallic color when it comes to weddings. Marsala itself isn’t necessarily a true red. It has brown and gold undertones and I love how copper sets it off perfectly.

So, this inspiration board is centered around Marsala. But in reality, I think it’s a lesson in “playing well with others.” Clearly a fall wedding comes to mind when I look at this board. But, if you did only a few small tweaks – maybe trade in the copper for blush pink accents – you would have yourself a spring wedding inspiration board. It’s the true definition of versatile. Amazingly perfect.

Enjoy my first stab at Marsala inspiration. Or better yet, follow our Pinterest board for the ever changing ideas for what Marsala could be in a wedding. Even scrolling through that board will give you an idea for how versatile I think it is.

And cheers to everyone as you celebrate the holiday this week! I wish you nothing but love and joy.

Until next time – XOXO, Julie
