Today I am happy to welcome my friend Laura Gordon to our blog for a bit of an introduction to her artwork in destination wedding photography. Laura’s work is truly set apart from others and I can’t think of a better person to be paired with our destination wedding clients. Her work is held in high regard among industry professionals and is known for her distinctive style. She was kind enough to sit down with us and let us into her world. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I strive to create painterly images with an effortless sense of nostalgia and romance. My work is greatly influenced by the couples I photograph and I’m inspired by the places, people and emotive elements of a wedding day. I specialize in photographing destination weddings and in commercial work for brands and magazines, consistently making stunning, high-quality imagery.

Where does your inspiration come from?

Over the past decade, it has been my privilege to document extraordinary couples and their unforgettable celebrations across the globe. I am intensely devoted to preserving feelings and emotions felt throughout a wedding day and I long to make thoughtful imagery, crafted to be authentic and timeless. Channeling years of experience in art, design, and photography I draw my inspiration from the places I see and those I photograph… their unique bonds, family dynamic, and other characteristics that showcase their love as authentically as possible.

How would you characterize your style?

I would describe my work as be painterly, nostalgic, and emotive. Through careful observation and great attention to detail, I am able to create a beautiful and poetic narrative. My at-ease approach with couples, paired with my ability to truly see and feel emotion, have been the fundamental elements in developing my distinctive style.

Tell us about your all-time favorite adventure.

I have so many, how can I choose?! I honestly love getting “lost” in other countries. I like to come up with a final destination (for example a dinner location or monument I’ve always wanted to see) of where I’m going and I’ll leave hours in advance and take detours and routes that might be off the beaten path. I’ve found so many incredible places both on foot and while driving. Quaint little towns, adorable farmers markets rich with culture, breathtaking scenery, and stunning architecture. I also have a tradition every time I visit Ireland and that’s to visit to a new castle or property. Those drives and visits are near and dear to my heart. I find so much beauty in the Irish landscape and the history and style of their homes and architecture.

What about your work is most meaningful to you?

I put my heart and soul into understanding my couples’ specific needs. I work with them, their families, and planners to collaboratively tell their story. I want the viewer of the images to feel as if they were there and transport them back so they are able to re-live those memories… the sounds, smells, the moments, the laughter, the people and all of the emotions that come along with those feelings. Uniting those sentiments and making them feel truly comfortable is all I could ever dream to deliver my clients & their families.

Share your photography bucket list!

Oh, this is a fun one! It has always been a dream of mine to visit and photograph in South Africa. My dream would be to stay in one of those fancy safari tents and wake up at sunrise and photograph the animals all day long.

This is going to sound cheesy but also just to continue shooting weddings. I wholeheartedly love photographing people and being there with them on a day that is so full of emotion is such an honor for me and something I feel just fuels my soul.

Lastly, just for fun, share your morning (or night time!) routine with us.

As soon as I wake up, I was my face, brush my teeth and take my vitamins. I turn on the coffee machine and take Aurora (our 2-year-old toy poodle for a walk). I grab my coffee, head into the office, light a candle, and turn on my favorite Pandora list that I’ve titled, “Painterly” which is a blend of classical pieces both new and old. This routine prepares me for the day and gets me in the right frame of mind for work.
