Intimate Wedding Reception Ideas: when small weddings mean big design

The past few weeks have seen massive changes for us all in every corner of our lives. It’s no secret that people are completely re-thinking how they do business, how they connect with their loved ones, and how they simply approach their day-to-day lives. Of course, these changes have bled into how we gather and celebrate major events in life. Clearly, as a wedding design and planning firm, we strongly hold onto the fact that love is worth celebrating and each celebration should be meaningful no matter the circumstances.

We’ve seen restrictions placed on how many people can gather at one time. At the time of writing this, our personal home states have issued guidelines of no more than 10 people in a single setting. While no one really knows when these restrictions will be completely lifted, it’s easy to assume that restrictions of some sort will last for at least several months from now and possibly into 2021.

Even when restrictions are lifted, there are those who would have always chosen to celebrate their milestones in a more intimate fashion. They’ve dreamed of a smaller group of very close friends and family to spend this special time, their wedding weekend, with. What they won’t compromise on is intention – in both design and experience – in including their guests as part of such a celebration.

A wonderful example of this is our couple, Devin and Ryan. Their intimate gathering of 70 guests at the incredible Lonesome Valley oozed personal touches alongside stunning design features. Devin’s dream of a dinner under a gorgeous tent was realized with soft spring colors and the layering of classic textures. Many people may think of a tented wedding as one for large groups, but Devin and Ryan’s wedding proves that a love of design, coupled with providing experiences, does not have to be sacrificed for a “small wedding” style. In fact, we could have easily had even fewer guests there and the same design would have been just as impactful and accommodating.

Items such as the custom lace runner for their estate table, the personalized menus at each place setting and the custom napkin rings from an independent ceramics artist. Even the lavender sprinkled under their guests’ seats at the ceremony, enhancing the already calming setting of Lonesome Valley, spoke to how they wanted their guests’ experience to encompass all their senses.

So today, I’d love for you to enjoy their beautiful images – courtesy of Kat Braman – but also know that your dreams can happen when intentionality and the team behind it is put to work to support your story.

Until next time… xoxo, Julie
