Jacqueline and Garrett Mattes are the team behind Ten Twenty Travel – a luxury concierge travel firm that specializes in honeymoons and destination weddings. While they are based in Charleston, South Carolina, at any given moment you can find them traveling the globe scouting the best properties for their clients. We asked them to round up the hottest honeymoon destinations for the 2019-2020 season and these were their top picks.
Bali
After recently returning from Bali and seeing several new properties – including Capella Ubud, named the Best New Hotel in the World in 2018 – this destination should be at the top of everyone’s list. Whether you are looking for cliff side views in Uluwatu, the best sunsets in Seminyak or being immersed in the Jungle of Ubud, Bali has something for everyone. Our absolute favorite property was the Capella Ubud, a luxury tented retreat with only 23 rooms each decorated with a different theme ranging from “Explorers Tent” to “Toy Makers Tent.” The food led by head chef Matt McCool was incredible and we highly recommend Api Jiwa the omakase style restaurant. From start to finish the experience was one of a kind – exactly what a honeymoon should be!
Maldives
The Maldives continues to be the pinnacle of luxury honeymoons. With overwater villas, crystal clear water, beautiful beaches, and a barefoot vibe there’s not much more you could ask for in a honeymoon. Some of our favorites are Six Senses Laamu, Cheval Blanc Randheli, Velaa Private Island and COMO Maalifushi.
Italy
While most of our clients have already traveled to Italy, we love sending them to some of our favorite off-the-beaten-path locations. Sikelia on Pantelleria is one of our absolute favorites! This super-chic boutique property is situated between Sicily and Africa and exudes tranquility with a modern flair.
Greece/Turkey
A lot of our clients want to explore more than one country and a great option is combining Greece and Turkey via a chartered boat. While islands like Mykonos, Santorini, and Crete are well known, there are a lot of islands only accessible via boat like Kos, Leros, Symi, and Samos that have an equal amount of charm. Plus, what’s more romantic than your own yacht in the Mediterranean?
Mexico
If you prefer a short flight, Mexico has a lot of fabulous options. Our three favorite hot spots are Riviera Maya, Cabo, and San Miguel de Allende. In Riviera Maya, our clients are loving Unico 2087 and Rosewood Mayakoba, which even has over lagoon villas! San Miguel de Allende has both a Rosewood and a Belmond – either of which are just as fabulous. And for Cabo, we love One and Only Palmilla, Chileno Bay – a stunning Auberge property, The Resort at Pedregal and Esperanza, another incredible Auberge property, where Courtney and her husband celebrated their anniversary last September.
Lana’i, Hawaii
For those without a passport, Hawaii has one of our favorite resorts for honeymooners – the Four Seasons Resort Lana’i. We always send our clients over from the Big Island via a private Lana’i Air flight after they’ve enjoyed the FS lounge at the airport. Once on property, clients can do everything from the lounge on the beach to go for a UTV ride on the island – highly recommended! Four Seasons Lana’i also offers a fabulous spa, incredible golf course, and the always incredible NOBU.
Thanks Jacqueline! We love your take on all of the world’s most incredible resorts and experiences. If international travel isn’t your thing and you and your hubby are looking to stay local, be sure and check out our favorite Southeastern resorts as well as ourfavorite honeymoon destinations in the south.
