Bridal Etiquette Series: Four Ways to Maintain a Great Relationship with Your Vendors

We believe saying “I do” is the most important part of any Alabama or Georgia wedding day, but who doesn’t love gorgeous flowers, to-die-for details, a delicious cake, knockout band and fabulous décor to enhance the celebration? Let’s face it – you need your vendors, and your vendors need you! With the heightened pressure that comes along with wedding planning, it can be challenging at times to maintain a positive working relationship, but it can and should be done! Over the years, we’ve seen many of our brides form lasting and meaningful friendships with their vendors, and that’s our hope for all of our clients. The key? It all comes down to communication, consideration and trust. Here, we break down our top tips for the proper care.

Relationship vendor

Communicate.
If you do nothing else, simply communicate with your team! This includes responding to calls or emails in a timely fashion, communicating your expectations and needs upfront, and checking in regularly to ensure all projects are on track for completion. Two-way communication builds trust, and trust is essential in any bride-vendor relationship.

Be respectful – in all circumstances.
Remember the golden rule; when communicating or spending time with your various vendors, it’s important to always be respectful. You can show respect in any number of ways, but a few standout examples include preparing for and showing up to meetings on time, voicing your thoughts calmly and listening. Even if something goes awry (we know – God forbid!), kindness is still the best choice.

Honor your contract.
Thoroughly read your vendor contracts beforehand to identify any needs your vendors may have, and honor their requests as best you can. Does your photographer require a pre-organized box of items for a checklist of photos? Make sure it’s ready to go before your wedding day. Has your band requested a meal before they get the party started? Add them to your total headcount for food, or arrange for a meal to be delivered. Does your venue require the supervision of children? Make plans for childcare.

Show appreciation.
Most importantly, be sure to thank each of your vendors throughout the planning process and after the big day for a job (hopefully) well done. Consider writing a thank-you note or sending a small token of appreciation their way to express your gratitude. While they’ll also be receiving a check for their services, nothing is as rewarding as genuine thanks.
