In this edition of our She Said Yes series, we bring you a sweet story from a couple so meant to be it will make your heart swell. As Hollan and Hoke excitedly anticipate their June wedding at Post Oak Plantation (the bride’s grandfather’s land) let’s take a step back and reminisce on their beautiful proposal as told by Hoke himself.
How did you meet?
Hollan’s brother, Hunter, and I spent a summer together while earning our degree at Auburn. He would talk about her a lot so I felt like I knew her before we even met. I just so happened to meet her in Auburn once the fall semester started. The night we met, we talked for about 30 minutes but it seemed like we had talked for only a minute. After that, I was determined to get to know her and spend more time with her. As luck would have it, the rest is history, we are engaged and soon to be married!
Tell us your proposal story!
I had planned a whole list of things I wanted to say and do but things didn’t quite work out that way. October 14th was opening day of deer season and Hollan’s family trail ride. I wanted it to be a special time between the two of us so I decided to propose to her when we were alone in a place that is sentimental to her. This place is where her late grandfather, Pop, loved to hunt. Hollan has had many special memories there and I wanted this to be another one.
Hollan, tell us what you love about Hoke.
I love Hoke’s genuine personality and lovable spirit. He truly has a heart of gold. I have the utmost admiration for Hoke’s passion and determination to be the best he can be in all aspects of his life, whether it be private or professional. I am grateful for his relentless patience, especially during this exciting and crazy time in our life! Hoke constantly keeps me laughing, there is never a dull moment between us. I am very blessed to have Hoke as my future husband!
Hoke, tell us what you love about Hollan.
The thing I love most about Hollan is she doesn’t even realize the positive influence she has on me. She is always so caring, giving, and goes out of her way to help other people. I know she will always be there to pick me up when I am down and be my teammate in fighting whatever tough obstacles may come our way. Hollan is my backbone. I’ve grown up a lot since I met her. She keeps me steered in the right direction. I am very excited to start this new chapter together!
Thank you, Hollan and Hoke, for sharing your especially charming love story. We’re counting the days until June 2nd! Want even more proposals to swoon over? Check out more of our She Said Yes series here.
